HELP WANTED - WISE COUNTY, VA is accepting applications for a full-time Maintenance Worker I position in the county maintenance department.

    DUTIES, FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the position is responsible for performing routine and advanced building and ground maintenance tasks and does related work as required.

  KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Knowledge of building and ground maintenance, cleaning, and upkeep required; basic understanding of maintenance supplies and equipment and the ability to use them economically and efficiently preferred; significant experience in construction trades preferred; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; ability to interpret blueprints, plans and/or sketches preferred; thoroughness, dependability, and good physical condition are required. The position is on 24-hour call and requires a working knowledge of electrical, HVAC, and basic plumbing.  Work includes preventive maintenance and inspection of roofs and guttering, grounds maintenance with operation of industrial mowers, trimming, weeding and raking, painting and general carpentry on building structures, including walls, floors and masonry, and general housekeeping duties.  Will be required to work overtime on an “as needed” basis.

  High school diploma or equivalent recommended with 3 years of relevant work experience. Class C contractor’s license with significant experience in construction trades preferred; electrical and HVAC certification preferred. 

   Expected salary range is $37,440 - $41,600 depending on qualifications.
