APPLICATION NUMBER: 1011896
Cumberland Coal Corporation P.O. Box 2007 Pikeville KY 41502 is applying to the Virginia Division of Mined land Reclamation for a Renewal of PERMIT No. 1102422, in order to continue the operations at the following location.
Nine Mile Spur #5, by Application 1011340. The permit area is approximately 530.51 acres. The operation is located in Wise County on Mud Lick Creek, approximately 5 miles North of Appalachia off Route 685, at coordinates N 3,539,484.820 and E 10,217,605.8000. The Appalachia, Virginia USGS 7.5-minute topographic quadrangle map was used to describe the permit location.
Drainage will pass through sediment control structures and be discharged into Mud Lick Creek of Callahan Creek. Discharge locations and the permit area may be viewed on the Renewal Map which is attached in Sections 21.2 and 21.5 of the application. Additional discharge details are available in the NPDES Application attached in Section 5.15 of the application.
Any person with a valid legal interest which might be adversely affected by this proposal, or an officer or head of any federal, state or local government agency or authority, may within 30 days of July 17, 2026 submit written comments or objections concerning this application, and may also request, in writing, that the Mined Land Repurposing Program hold an Informal Conference concerning this application.
