LG&E and KU launch proactive power outage alerts to help keep customers better informed

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company are launching a new proactive power outage alert service to automatically notify customers when an outage is detected. This new technology utilizes advanced electric meters to automatically alert the utilities' systems.

Customers will receive proactive, automated text messages or phone calls with information on:

Detection of an outage.

Estimated restoration times (as soon as they are known).

Confirmation once power is restored.

How the Alerts Work

Alerts will be sent via text or automated phone call to the mobile or landline number provided for the customer's account.

Contact information can be updated 24/7 using LG&E and KU’s self-serve options (mobile app, online via My Account, or automated phone system).

Text alerts will come from 4LGEKU (454358).

Automated phone calls will come from 800-331-7370 (LG&E customers) or 800-981-0600 (KU/ODP customers). Customers are encouraged to save these numbers.

Part of Grid Enhancement

This alert service is part of the utilities' long-term investment in system enhancements, including advanced meter technology, stronger infrastructure, and automated systems, which have already resulted in a 40% reduction in outage frequency and a 30% reduction in outage duration in recent years.

Important Safety Reminders

Customers should never text to report a natural gas leak or downed power line.

Natural Gas Leak: Evacuate immediately, call 911, and notify LG&E at 502-589-1444 or 800-331-7370.

Downed Wires: Always assume a downed wire is energized. Stay away, keep others away, and call immediately:
