TERESA MITCHELL
January 22, 2026
Teresa Mitchell, a devoted sister, cherished aunt, and a cornerstone of the Mitchell family, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at Corbin Baptist Hospital at the age of 63.
Born in Maryland, Teresa spent her life defining what it meant to be selfless. While she did not have children of her own, she was a mother in every sense that mattered. To her many nieces and nephews, she was a "Second Mom" - the one who never missed a birthday, was one of the first they called with good news, and was a steady hand to help with any of life's challenges.
Her home was a sanctuary of open doors and full plates. Whether she was shopping, baking her favorite pies or organizing family reunions, her focus was always on the happiness of others. She gave quietly, loved fiercely and left every life she touched a little brighter.
She was a dedicated nurse who was runner up for "Nurse of the Year" in the state of Kentucky. She cared deeply for those she provided care for and loved her work family at Williamsburg Health and Rehab.
Teresa is preceded in death by her parents, Beecher and Helen Mitchell, as well as her brother, David Kidwell.
She is survived by her siblings, Sheila McCoy, Beecher Mitchell, JR. and wife, Melissa, and Karen Mitchell, with a legacy of nieces and nephews who will forever carry her lessons for kindness and generosity in their hearts; her special friends, Gail Marlow, Linda Yates, Linda Sexton, Michael Marlow, Margaret Lee, and the love of her life Gary Hall.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 22, 2026 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Estes Funeral Home in Coeburn, VA. Family and friends will gather at 12:00pm to 2:00pm Friday, January 23, 2026 at McCoys Chapel Church with funeral services at 2:00pm with Pastor Roger McCoy officiating. Burial will follow in the Mitchell Family Cemetery in Nora, VA.
Nieces and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
