THREVA BOGGS

January 12, 2026

Threva Lorena (Osborne) Boggs, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 9, 2026. Threva was of the Pentecostal faith and spent her last good waking hours on Earth singing to the Lord, as she’d done her entire life. Affectionately known as “Sis” by all that loved her, she carried the weight of many in the life as family meant the most to her.
Born at home September 5, 1952, in the rural area of Roaring Fork, Threva was the middle child of seven and eldest daughter of Howard and Stella Osborne. Threva lived in the small mining community of Wakenva until she was 3 years old. Her family then moved with the coal company where she spent her younger years growing up in Toms Creek and Crab Orchard near Coeburn, Virginia. Threva lived a long and joyous 73 years after receiving the gift of renewed life from a kidney transplant on January 20, 2006. She always referred to that day as her “new 'birthday”.
Until the end, Threva maintained her kindness, grace, humor, compassion, appreciation of Earthly beauty, love of family and friends, and expressed gratitude for her long life, full of wonderful experiences with her husband, three children, and with the true joys of her life, grandsons Logan, Jacob, and Hunter.
Threva was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dennis C. Boggs, Sr.; daughter, Threva Denise Boggs; parents, Howard Osborne and Stella Osborne Williams; siblings, Frank, Howard “Bug”, Larry, Reba, and Donnie.
She is survived by her son, Dennis C. Boggs, Jr. (Natasha Boggs) and grandson, Hunter Harrison; her daughter, Tishia Renea Adams and grandsons, Logan Alexander Adams and Jacob Liam Adams, all of Coeburn, Virginia; her precious sister, Karen Sue Phipps of Kingsport, Tennessee; special “sisters”, Wanda Osborne and Karen Judd; and a wealth of other close family and friends.
The crowning glory for Threva was the arrical of her grandchildren, the birth and young lives of whom she would not have experienced if not for her kidney transplant. Threva’s wishes were for a private, intimate graveside service with her closest family and friends present. In lieu of a funeral and flowers, it was her wish that everyone instead, donate to the National Kindney Foundation. It has been her life’s mission to spread the knowledge and importance of the gift of organ donation. She wanted her death to be a moment to celebrate that gift, and to celebrate and rejoice in renewed life instead of her loved ones spending days filled with sorrow.
A graveside service was conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 11, 2026 with Pastor Brian Rose officiating. Threva was laid to rest in the Boggs Family Plot at Kilgore Cemetery in Banner, Virginia. Pallbearers were her grandsons and nephews. Anyone wishing to join the procession to the graveside, met at Estes Funeral Home by 1:15 p.m., Sunday.
Please send any donations in Threva’s memory to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016, or visit their website for online giving options.
