It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother Rita J. Salyer on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the age of 88. Surrounded by her loving daughters, Rita peacefully concluded her battle with cancer.
Born to Ted and Minnie Kennedy in Coeburn, Virginia, Rita grew up alongside her siblings, Paul Kennedy and Kester Kennedy (deceased). She later met and married the love of her life, Darrell W. Salyer, with whom she shared over 39 wonderful years until his passing in 2000.
Rita’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her devoted daughters and their spouses, Deberah and Barry Bloomer and Diana and James DeMoss, Jr.; her cherished grandchildren, Taylor Thompson and James DeMoss III; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Aiden and Emma Thompson. To them, she was “MamMaw”—a title she wore with pride and love beyond measure.
A longtime member of Rockville Church of God, Rita lived a life rooted in faith, kindness, and unwavering devotion to those she loved. Her warmth and generosity touched everyone who knew her, and her absence leaves an immeasurable void.
She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to your local food bank in Rita’s honor.
Per Rita’s wishes, a graveside only service will be held at Norbeck Memorial Park, on Saturday, November 8th at 2:00 p.m. located at 16225 Batchellors Forest Road, Olney, Maryland.
