CAROL HOPKINS

NORTON, VA - Carol Mae Connor Hopkins, age 86, of Norton, Virginia, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. A devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend, Carol lived a life centered around care, compassion and service to others.

Born October 25, 1938, in Troy, New York to Burton and Etta Connor, Carol dedicated her early years to a career in nursing, always finding ways to offer comfort and support to those in need.

Later, she spent 25 years working for Norton City Schools as a Title I aide, where her kindness and dedication touched the lives of countless children and families.

Her legacy of service and love will be remembered by all who knew her.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband of 54 years, James Ray “Hoppy” Hopkins, Sr., and her son James Ray “Cricket” Hopkins, Jr.

Carol is survived by her loving daughters, Laura (Mike) Duffie of Panama City, FL, Janet (Mark) Conner of Norton, VA, and Karen (Chris) Kommes of Johnson City, TN; her daughter-in-law, Natysha Hopkins, Gray, TN; her sister, Beverly Muller of Coram, NY, and brothers, Burt (Paula) Connor of Williamsburg, VA and Kevin (Debbie) Connor of West Hempstead, NY.

She was a proud grandmother to six grandchildren, April (Mike) Addison, Tim (Sundy) Adams, Brooke (Garret) DeHart, Colin Duffie, Ryan Kommes and Caitlin (Spencer) Osgood. A cherished great-grandmother to 10, Peyton and Emma Addison, Savannah and Sofia Adams, Adley and Sailor DeHart, Calvert and Kendall Duffie, Calvin and Chandler Le and Jaxx and Ellacate Osgood. Carol also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

Carol's dedication to her family, her tireless work for her community, and her gentle spirit made her a beacon of love and strength to all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 7 PM Thursday, June 26, 2025, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton with Pastor Michael Addison officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of VA, PO Box 349, Norton, VA 24273 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to continuing Carol's lifelong mission of helping others grow and thrive.
