APPLICATION NUMBER: 1011624

Coking Coal, LLC of 633 Callahan Avenue, Appalachia, VA 24216 is applying to the Virginia Division of Mined land Reclamation for a Renewal of PERMIT No. 1102386, in order to continue the operations at the following location.

Nine Mile Spur #6 Mine is located 0.7 miles East of Stonega on Callahan Creek in Wise County, at coordinates North 36o57’28”, East 82o46’10”. The permit area is 334.42 acres and is contained on the Appalachia USGS 7.5’ quadrangle map. The Renewal map showing the permit area is attached in Section 21.2 of the application.

Drainage and wastewater resulting from the permitted operation will be discharged into Callahan Creek, via sediment ponds treating surface runoff. The discharge locations may be viewed on the Surface Water Hydrology Map, which is attached in Section 21.2 of the application. Additional discharge details are available in the NPDES Application attached in Section 5.15 of the application.

Any person with a valid legal interest which might be adversely affected by this proposal, or an officer or head of any federal, state or local government agency or authority, may within 30 days of June 10, 2025 submit written comments or objections concerning this application, and may also request, in writing, that the Mined Land Repurposing Program hold an Informal Conference concerning this application.
