BETTY JARBOE
Betty “Boody” Jarboe, 79, died Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Norton Community Hospital. She was born in Norton to the late James Clyde Watts and Emma Ford Watts. She was a 1963 graduate of J.I. Burton High School, having participated in the band and school plays. In 1964 she moved to Washington, DC where she worked for the Army Map Service where she met her husband of 50 years, Edward Howard Jarboe, whom she dearly loved. She then worked for the National Institute of Health in Maryland. She was a former employee of C&P Telephone, Bell Atlantic and later Verizon. In 1971 she and her husband moved to Woodbridge, VA. After the death of her husband, she returned to Norton in 2018. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Norton. She had a wonderful sense of humor, was generous and enjoyed conversations with everyone. She loved collecting duck and snowman figurines. She enjoyed shopping, especially QVC and visiting Virginia Beach. She loved her family, especially her daughter. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, J. David Jarboe.
She is survived by her daughter, Diana Jarboe and her wife, Melissa Albright-Jarboe of Wise, VA; a son, Edward Jarboe, Jr of Olney, MD; a grandson, Zachary Jarboe and his wife Taana of Manassas, VA; great grandchildren, Ethan Jarboe, Colin Jarboe, and Kelly Jarboe; brothers, James Watts, Wayne Watts and his wife Julie, all of Wise, VA; sisters, Shirley Campbell, Freda Lyons and Sandra Watts, all of Norton, VA, and Brenda Shimmel of Manassas, VA; several nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Caleb Ennis and a granddaughter, Kaniah Parrish.
The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. - 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Margie Mabe and Melissa Albright-Jarboe officiating. Burial will follow in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.
