Another 35 cases reported

Wise County reported 29 new COVID-19 cases between Jan. 23 and Tuesday.

According to Virginia Department of Health statistics, the county’s total number of cases since spring 2020 was 15,792 as of Tuesday, compared to 15,763 one week earlier.

One week ago, Wise County’s total number of COVID deaths had been revised down by one, from 257 to 256. The reason was not immediately clear. As of Tuesday, the number had been revised back up to 257. Again, the reason was not clear.

The department’s cumulative positive case count for Norton increased by six, from 1,838 to 1,844.

The city’s total number of deaths remained at 22.
