County, city see 29 new COVID cases

Wise County reported 27 new COVID-19 cases between Jan. 16 and Tuesday.

According to Virginia Department of Health statistics, the county’s total number of cases since spring 2020 was 15,763 as of Tuesday, compared to 15,736 one week earlier.

Wise County’s total number of COVID deaths was revised down by one, from 257 to 256. The reason was not immediately clear.

The department’s cumulative positive case count for Norton increased by two, from 1,836 to 1,838.

The city’s total number of deaths remained at 22.
