LORETTA HAMILTON ISON

Loretta Hamilton Ison, 93, passed away Monday, December 4, 2023 at her home in Belmont, NC after a short illness.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints since 1957. She grew up in Wise, VA and lived there all of her life until moving to NC in 2022. She was first born to William and Fannie Gardner Hamilton, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Curtis William Ison; three brothers, Kyle Hamilton, Lee Hamilton and Joe Hamilton.

Surviving are her daughter, Deborah Ison of Belmont, NC; three sons, David Ison and Lisa of Dryden, VA, Bryan Ison and wife Dottie of Gastonia, NC and Barry Ison and wife Beverly of Big Stone Gap, VA; five grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; sister, Lillian Gobble of Rexburg, Idaho; special daughter-in-law, Joan Ison of Wise, VA and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services for Loretta Ison will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 8, 2023 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints 3153 2nd Ave E. Big Stone Gap, VA with her son Bishop Barry Ison officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. till time of services at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Graveside committal services and burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens in Big Stone Gap, VA. Family and friends will meet at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at Sturgill Funeral Home 1621 Norton Road SW Wise, VA to go to the cemetery in procession.
