SHARON KAY JOHNSON BOWMAN
Sharon Kay Johnson Bowman, 61, of Bastian, VA, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at her home. She was born April 3, 1962 in Carthage, TN, the daughter of James & Fay Johnson.
Sharon was preceded in death by her mother, Hedy Fay Dickerson Johnson, an unborn child and her son, Matthew Thomas Bowman.
Written lovingly by her husband of 35 years, Pastor Cliff Bowman: Sharon was my hero. I loved her with all my heart. She loved me too. We were truly best friends. She made the best mashed potatoes. I loved her lasagna. There is so much that can be said about her and I don’t even know where to start. I will say this:
Sharon loved Jesus with all of her heart. She loved the kids she taught in Sunday School and really loved that class. She would prepare for that class daily. She thought it was very important for the kids to receive the Word and a good Bible education. She would want you to know how important it is to know Jesus and serve Him with all of your heart.
Sharon loved being a Pastor’s wife and she always said I was her favorite preacher. She told me one time why do I need to look up stuff when I can just ask you.
Today, Sharon is with the greatest Bible preacher ever known, Jesus. She is seeing the LIVING WORD.
Sharon impacted the lives of many people. She had a warm and welcoming smile. She saw the best in everybody. She never complained about her physical problems. She worked behind the scenes and did many things that very few people knew about. And she did it without the desire for recognition.
God answered a prayer when He put us together.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Pastor Cliff Bowman; her father, James D. Johnson; her brother & sister-in-law, Scott & Jennifer Johnson; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Tim & Tammy Bowman, Patricia Bowman & Travis Spurlock and Connie & Johnny Spurlock; her nephews, Eric Dehart, Stephen Johnson and Keith Barnes; her niece, Kayla Barnes; and many special friends.
I want to thank the Bastian Church of God, the Church of God VA state office staff and the VA Church if God pastors and ministers. Also, I’d like to thank the Bland Rescue Squad for their efforts to help Sharon. Thanks also to the Bland County Sheriff’s office. I also would like to thank both A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home, of White Gate, VA, as well as Sturgill Funeral Homes of Wise, VA for their care and service during this time.
Funeral services are planned for Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. at the Bastian Church of God with Pastor Eddie Dalton, Pastor Mitch Looney, Pastor Barry Dillow and Administrative Bishop for the Churches of God in VA, Toby Morgan officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 5:00 p.m. until service time, 7:00 p.m.
On Thursday, July 13, 2023, the family will receive friends at a visitation service at Sturgill Funeral Home, Wise, VA, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held Friday, July 14, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Wise Cemetery.
Sharon will be buried in Wise, VA, beside our son Matthew. She loved him dearly and missed him every day. Now she no longer has that longing to see him. I want to thank the Stevens Church of God for their efforts in helping with the coordination of pall bearers for the burial.
I was blessed to call Sharon my wife my best friend and my wittle, the little nickname we liked to call each other. Jesus reminds me: “Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?” John 11:25-26 KJV I do believe Lord Jesus.
The Bowman family is in the care of A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home, White Gate, avestandsons.com, (540 ) 921-2985 and Sturgill Funeral Home, Wise, VA, sturgillfuneral.com, (276) 679-0048.
