DOYLE ROBERTS
Doyle Roberts, 81, died Saturday, June 17, 2023, at the Waters of Bristol in Blountville, TN. He was born May 4, 1942, in Wise County, Virginia and graduated from J.J. Kelly High School. He spent three years in the United States Marine Corp and returned to Wise County to work for Westmoreland Coal Company. He later retired as an inspector for Mines Minerals and Energy.
In the past he was a Lions Club Member, a Tennessee Sportsman Club Member and an active member for the Veterans Association. He was baptized in 1975 and an active member of the Catholic Church in Norton for many years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and gave away more fish than he kept. Painter Creek Marina became his joy during retirement. Football and NASCAR were his favorites. Card playing with his friends was on top of his fun list. His buddies were like family.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Liz Roberts; his son, Cory Roberts and grandson, Spencer Roberts. His “boys” were his pride and joy and bragged to everyone about them. He leaves one sister, Ellen Locklear, and many relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 pm Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton, VA. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment with military rites will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at the Mountain Home National Cemetery in Johnson City, TN. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery by 12:45 p.m. to be escorted to the committal site.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled Veterans programs if you wish.
