LINDA JOHNSTON "CHARLIE" KING
Linda Johnston "Charlie" King of Catawba, Va. passed away suddenly on Sunday, March 19, 2023.
She was born on May 29, 1945, in Norton, Va. She was a proud graduate of Appalachia High School in Appalachia, Va., the Bulldogs! Linda was also a graduate of Radford University with BS and MS degrees.
Linda was a speech pathologist for 25 years for Roanoke County Public Schools in Roanoke, Va. She was a trusted colleague who clearly cared about her students.
After moving to the beautiful Catawba Valley, she became active with the Catawba Valley Women's Club, serving as secretary and vice-president.
Linda was a band person, a crafter and reader. Her personalized cards were beautiful and creative (always a little different!). Her reading list was extensive and crossed all genres. She was a member of the Appalachia HS "Tricky Sixty" Band and the Roanoke Valley Community Band. She supported her husband's bands at Coeburn High School in Coeburn, Va. and William Byrd High School in Vinton, Va., as she participated in and attended numerous concerts, football halftime shows and marching band competitions.
She was predeceased by her father, Wesley P. Johnston; her mother, Florence M. Johnston; and her nephew, Tyler B. Johnston.
Linda is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Stephen E. King, EDD, and a brother, Joseph E. Johnston and wife, Andi.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, at Oakey's North Chapel.
