Eight die; 85 cases reported

Wise County reported 77 new COVID-19 cases between Jan. 31 and Tuesday.

According to Virginia Department of Health statistics, the county’s total number of cases since spring 2020 was 13,798 as of Tuesday, compared to 13,721 one week earlier.
Wise County’s total number of COVID deaths increased by eight, from 227 to 235.

The department’s cumulative positive case count for Norton increased by eight during the same period, from 1,593 to 1,601.

The city’s total number of deaths remained at 21.

The Virginia Department of Health recently made several changes to its public reporting of COVID statistics, including no longer releasing daily updates.
