One death, 111 new cases

Wise County reported 90 new COVID-19 cases between Jan. 5 and Tuesday.

According to Virginia Department of Health statistics, the county’s total number of cases since spring 2020 was 13,542 as of Tuesday, compared to 13,452 five days earlier.
Wise County’s total number of COVID deaths increased by one, from 223 to 224.

The department’s cumulative positive case count for Norton increased by 21 during the same period, from 1,548 to 1,569.

The city’s total number of deaths remained at 21.

The Virginia Department of Health recently made several changes to its public reporting of COVID statistics, including no longer releasing daily updates.
