County, city report 18 cases

Wise County reported 15 new COVID-19 cases between last Thursday and yesterday.

According to Virginia Department of Health statistics, the county’s total number of cases since spring 2020 was 13,300 as of yesterday, compared to 13,285 four days earlier.
Wise County’s total number of COVID deaths remained at 223.

The department’s cumulative positive case count for Norton increased by three, from 1,515 to 1,518.
The city’s total number of deaths remained at 20.

The health department reports that statewide, the total number of confirmed cases since the pandemic began rose from 1,530,957 Thursday to 1,534,928 yesterday, an increase of 3,971. The number of “probable” cases in Virginia rose from 642,590 Thursday to 645,459 yesterday, an increase of 2,869.
During the same period, the number of confirmed deaths increased by 14 to 18,731. The number of probable COVID-19 deaths increased by eight to 3,871.
