One death, 35 new cases

Wise County reported 29 new COVID-19 cases between Monday and yesterday.

According to Virginia Department of Health statistics, the county’s total number of cases since spring 2020 was 13,079 as of yesterday, compared to 13,050 four days earlier.
Wise County’s total number of COVID deaths increased by one, from 212 to 213.

The department’s cumulative positive case count for Norton increased by six, from 1,488 Monday to 1,494 yesterday.
The city’s total number of deaths remained at 20.

The health department reports that statewide, the total number of confirmed cases since the pandemic began rose from 1,503,206 Monday to 1,505,238 yesterday, an increase of 2,032. The number of “probable” cases in Virginia rose from 624,375 Monday to 625,511 yesterday, an increase of 1,136.
During the same period, the number of confirmed deaths increased by two to 18,447. The number of probable COVID-19 deaths increased by four to 3,785.
