County, city report 48 new cases

Wise County reported 42 new COVID-19 cases between last Thursday and yesterday.

According to Virginia Department of Health statistics, the county’s total number of cases since spring 2020 was 13,050 as of yesterday, compared to 13,008 four days earlier.

Wise County’s total number of COVID deaths remained at 212.
The department’s cumulative positive case count for Norton increased by six, from 1,482 Thursday to 1,488 yesterday.
The city’s total number of deaths remained at 20.

The health department reports that statewide, the total number of confirmed cases since the pandemic began rose from 1,500,792 Thursday to 1,503,206 yesterday, an increase of 2,414. The number of “probable” cases in Virginia rose from 622,846 Thursday to 624,375 yesterday, an increase of 1,529.
During the same period, the number of confirmed deaths increased by four to 18,445. The number of probable COVID-19 deaths increased by five to 3,781.
