County, city report 45 cases

Wise County reported 38 new COVID-19 cases between last Thursday and Monday.

According to Virginia Department of Health statistics, the county’s total number of cases since spring 2020 was 12,912 as of yesterday, compared to 12,874 four days earlier.
Wise County’s total number of COVID deaths remained at 211.

The department’s cumulative positive case count for Norton increased by seven, from 1,463 Thursday to 1,470 Monday.
The city’s total number of deaths remained at 20.

The health department reports that statewide, the total number of confirmed cases since the pandemic began rose from 1,491,813 Thursday to 1,494,055 Monday, an increase of 2,242. The number of “probable” cases in Virginia rose from 617,154 Thursday to 618,484 Monday, an increase of 1,330.
During the same period, the number of confirmed deaths increased by 18 to 18,373. The number of probable COVID-19 deaths increased by nine to 3,745.
