County, city mark 43 more COVID cases

Wise County reported 38 new COVID-19 cases between Monday and yesterday.

According to Virginia Department of Health statistics, the county’s total number of cases since spring 2020 was 12,874 as of yesterday, compared to 12,836 three days earlier.

Wise County’s total number of COVID deaths remained at 211.

The department’s cumulative positive case count for Norton increased by 10, from 1,453 Monday to 1,463 yesterday.
The city’s total number of deaths remained at 20.

The health department reports that statewide, the total number of confirmed cases since the pandemic began rose from 1,489,728 Monday to 1,491,813 yesterday, an increase of 2,085. The number of “probable” cases in Virginia rose from 615,857 Monday to 617,154 yesterday, an increase of 1,297.
During the same period, the number of confirmed deaths increased by 43 to 18,355. The number of probable COVID-19 deaths increased by seven to 3,736.
