Local case numbers revised down
The total number of COVID-19 cases and deaths in Wise County has been revised downward over the last week.
The reason was not immediately clear Monday.
According to Virginia Department of Health statistics, the county’s total number of cases since spring 2020 has been reduced by 372, from 13,058 reported Oct. 3 to 12,686 reported yesterday.
Also, the county’s total number of COVID-related deaths has been revised down by four, increased by one, from 212 reported Oct. 3 to 208 reported yesterday.
The health department’s cumulative positive case count for Norton also was revised down by 67, from 1,635 reported Oct. 3 to 1,568 reported yesterday.
However, the total number of deaths in the city is shown to have increased by one, from 22 to 23.
Statewide, the total number of confirmed cases since the pandemic began rose from 1,480,896 Oct. 3 to 1,485,313 yesterday, an increase of 4,417. The number of “probable” cases in Virginia rose from 610,289 Oct. 3 to 613,066 yesterday, an increase of 2,777.
During the same period, the number of confirmed deaths increased by 73 to 18,251. The number of probable COVID-19 deaths increased by 14 to 3,720.
