One death, 23 new cases

Wise County saw 21 new COVID-19 cases between last Thursday and yesterday.

The county’s total number of COVID cases since spring 2020 increased from 13,037 to 13,058 in four days, according to the Virginia Department of Health.
The county’s total number of COVID-related deaths increased by one, from 211 to 212.
The health department’s cumulative positive case count for Norton increased by two, from 1,633 to 1,635.
The total number of deaths in the city remained at 22.

Statewide, the total number of confirmed cases since the pandemic began rose from 1,478,400 Thursday to 1,480,896 yesterday, an increase of 2,496. The number of “probable” cases in Virginia rose from 608,960 Thursday to 610,289 yesterday, an increase of 1,329.
During the same period, the number of confirmed deaths increased by 21 to 18,178.

The number of probable COVID-19 deaths increased by 14 to 3,706.
