LESTER STURGILL JR.

Lester Sturgill Jr., 46, of Norton, died Monday, August 29, 2022, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, VA.

Lester enjoyed golfing, umpiring softball and baseball. He was an avid UK fan. Lester was a jack of all trades working in carpentry, plumbing and other fields.

He is survived by his parents, Lester Sturgill Sr. and Donna Stapleton Sturgill of Norton; two daughters, Darian Carico and her husband Jacob of Norton, Cami Sturgill of Clintwood; a granddaughter, Mia Carico; two sisters, Julie Martin and her husband Bryan of Lewisville, NC, Brandy Self and her husband Andy of Bristol, Va.; three brothers, Mark Sturgill and his wife Crystal, Terry Sturgill and his wife Andrea and Brian Sturgill and his wife Michelle, all of Norton and “brother” Kevin Phillips of Pound; seven nephews, Tyler Rose of Norton, Bradley (Bobo) Rose of Lewisville, NC, Dalton Sturgill, Braelyn Sturgill both of Norton, Shane Davis of Pound, Parker Sturgill, and Bryson Sturgill, both of Norton; nine nieces, Bailey Sturgill of Norton, Gabby Manning of Huntsville, Ala., Madison Mullins of Lewisville, NC, Kelsey Sturgill, Kylee Sturgill both of Norton, Hannah Mullins of Abingdon, Brynlee Sturgill, Keaira Sturgill, and Emberli Sturgill all of Norton; and his dog, Jake.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Saturday, Sept. 3 at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Scott Addison officiating. Graveside committal services will be conducted at 2 pm Sunday, Sept. 4 at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 1:30 pm to travel in procession to the cemetery.
