Three days, 64 new cases

Wise County saw 55 new COVID-19 cases between Monday and Thursday.

The county’s total number of COVID cases since spring 2020 increased from 10,983 to 11,038 in three days, according to the Virginia Department of Health.
The county’s total number of COVID-related deaths remained at 204.

The health department’s cumulative positive case count for Norton increased by nine, from 1,391 to 1,400.
The number of total deaths in the city remained at 22.

Statewide, the total number of confirmed cases since the pandemic began rose from 1,341,773 Monday to 1,346,806 Thursday, an increase of 5,033. The number of cases deemed “probable” rose from 537,533 Monday to 540,625 Thursday, an increase of 3,092.
During the same period, the number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths in Virginia increased by 53 to 17,276.

The number of probable COVID-19 deaths increased by nine to 3,440.
