KENNETH GENE STURGILL

Kenneth Gene Sturgill, 83, of Pound Virginia, went to be with the Lord on May 28, 2022.
He was a true man of God. His faith was Jesus Christ his Lord and Savior. He was a coal miner for 48 years with Scotia Coal Company and Cumberland River. In 1976 he was on the rescue team of the Scotia Mine explosion. Kenneth loved working puzzle books, gardening and fishing. He treasured the time he spent with his kids and grandkids, and loved family get togethers. Kenneth was a humble and easy going man, he loved his Lord and his family.
He was married to his loving wife for 57 years Ruby Gail Sturgill. His children: Melinda Yeary and husband Ray of Wise, Kenneth “Marty” Sturgill and wife Pam of Eolia, KY, Rhonda Sturgill of Norton, Heather Sturgill of Virginia, Mandy Worrell and husband Bill of Lebanon; his grandchildren: Kayla Grills and husband Steven of Wise, Timothy Sturgill of Eolia, KY, Hannah Herrin and husband Andrew of Surgoinsville, TN, Isaac Worrell of Lebanon, great-grandchild Keaton Grills of Wise; brothers Roger Sturgill and wife Teresa of Pound; sisters; Katie Maggard and husband Wayne of TN and Nancy Taylor and husband Coy of Pound.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his father Troy Sturgill, mother Alice (Rutherford) Sturgill; sisters Annie Blizzard, Betty Jo Maggard, Julie Cantrell, Fannie Cantrell and Joyce Taylor; brothers Ulis Sturgill and Clyde Sturgill.
Funeral services were held 1:00 pm Friday, June 3 in the Baker Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Ray Yeary officiating. Family received friends from 11:00 a.m. until time of services. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery on Hale Gap Road in Pound where Ray Yeary, Bill Worrell, Mark Newsome, Steven Grills, Isaac Worrell, Andrew Herrin, and Marty Sturgill served as pallbearers.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Norton Community Hospital.
