Another death, 55 cases reported

Wise County saw 48 new COVID-19 cases between last Thursday and yesterday.

The county’s total number of COVID cases since spring 2020 increased from 10,492 to 10,540 in four days.
The county’s total number of COVID-related deaths increased by one, from 199 to 200.

The health department’s cumulative positive case count for Norton increased by seven between Thursday and yesterday, from 1,342 to 1,349.

The number of total deaths in the city remained at 22.

Statewide, the total number of confirmed cases since the pandemic began rose from 1,283,422 Thursday to 1,291,875 yesterday, an increase of 8,453. The number of cases deemed “probable” rose from 510,222 Thursday to 513,906 yesterday, an increase of 3,684.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths in Virginia increased by 20 to 17,049.
The number of probable COVID-19 deaths increased by one to 3,382.
