County, city see 13 new cases in one day
Wise County saw nine new COVID-19 cases between last Thursday and Friday.
Because of the Memorial Day holiday, May 27 was the most recent local case report date available Monday on data.virginia.gov, where the health department’s local case data is now being reported.
The county’s total number of COVID cases since spring 2020 increased from 10,420 to 10,429 in one day.
The county’s total number of COVID-related deaths remained at 199.
The health department’s cumulative positive case count for Norton increased by four in one day, from 1,327 to 1,331.
The number of total deaths in the city remained at 22.
Unlike the local numbers, the statewide pandemic statistics reported on the health department’s website Monday where accurate as of that day. The total number of confirmed cases since the pandemic began rose from 1,270,384 Thursday to 1,272,918 yesterday, an increase of 2,534. The number of cases deemed “probable” rose from 503,801 Thursday to 504,895 yesterday, an increase of 1,094.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths in Virginia increased by one to 17,000. The number of probable COVID-19 deaths increased by five to 3,376.
