Area sees 48 more cases

Wise County saw 45 new COVID-19 cases between last Thursday and yesterday.

The county’s total number of COVID cases since spring 2020 increased from 10,352 to 10,397 in four days.
The county’s total number of COVID-related deaths remained at 199.

The health department’s cumulative positive case count for Norton increased by three, from 1,317 to 1,320.

The number of total deaths in the city remained at 22.

Virginia’s rate of new case growth is once again accelerating.

Statewide, the total number of confirmed cases since the pandemic began rose from 1,254,678 Thursday to 1,263,161 yesterday, an increase of 8,483. The number of cases deemed “probable” rose from 496,765 Thursday to 500,747 yesterday, an increase of 3,982.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths in Virginia increased by six to 16,980. The number of probable COVID-19 deaths increased by two to 3,360.
