County reports only five new COVID cases

Wise County saw five new COVID-19 cases between Monday and yesterday.

The county’s total number of COVID cases since spring 2020 increased from 10,264 to 10,269.

The county’s total number of COVID-related deaths since the pandemic began remained at 197.

The health department’s cumulative positive case count for Norton was revised down by two, from 1,304 to 1,302. The reason was not immediately clear.

The number of total deaths in the city remained at 22.

Virginia’s rate of new case growth was once again accelerating during the same period.

Statewide, the total number of confirmed cases since the pandemic began rose from 1,216,368 Monday to 1,219,835 yesterday, an increase of 3,467. The number of cases deemed “probable” rose from 478,202 Monday to 479,761 yesterday, an increase of 1,559.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths in Virginia increased by 48 to 16,866. The number of probable COVID-19 deaths increased by three to 3,354.
