Another death, six new COVID cases reported

Another local resident has died of complications from COVID-19.

Wise County’s total number of COVID-related deaths since the pandemic began increased from 197 last Thursday to 198 yesterday, according to Virginia Department of Health statistics.
The county’s total number of COVID cases since spring 2020 increased by six, from 10,248 Thursday to 10,254 Monday.

The health department’s cumulative positive case count for Norton remained at 1,305.

The number of total deaths in the city remained at 22.

Statewide, the total number of confirmed cases since the pandemic began rose from 1,207,479 Thursday to 1,210,308 yesterday, an increase of 2,829. The number of cases deemed “probable” rose from 474,250 Thursday to 475,592 yesterday, an increase of 1,342.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths in Virginia increased by 38 to 16,714. The number of probable COVID-19 deaths increased by 18 to 3,330.
