Paul James Damron, 78, of Wise, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2022 at his home.

Paul graduated from Elkhorn City High School where he thoroughly enjoyed pitching baseball. He made a career working for VDOT and Paramont Coal Corporation. Paul was a man devoted to his community. He had served on the Wise Fire Department as fireman, assistant chief and chief. He had also served on the Wise Rescue Squad and the Civil Defense. He spent 27 years coaching Wise Little League. He once commented that he had probably taught 500 kids to play baseball.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Damron; parents, Wayne and Pearl Belcher Damron; brothers, Orbin, Frank, John, Jack and Howard; sisters, Eleanor, Laura, Martha Ann, Garnell, Dora Lee and Evelyn.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Kevin Hall of Wise; granddaughter, Emily Hall of Wise; sisters-in-law, Debbie Nagy of Wise and Carol Wheatley of Norton; special friends, Sharon Evans, Cindy Mullins, Andrea Tester, Linda and Don Horne and Johnny and Tammy Ramey; many other nephews, nieces, cousins; 3 precious cats that he loved and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Paul Damron will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 12 at the Sturgill Funeral Home chapel, Wise with Pastor Roger Barker officiating. Family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. till time of services. Graveside committal services for Paul Damron will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 13 at Beverly Cemetery, Wise. Family and friends will meet at 10:40 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home to go to the cemetery in procession.
