HURLEY LYNN MITCHELL

Hurley Lynn Mitchell, 66, entered into rest on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at his home. He was born February 27, 1956, in Norton, VA to the late Ival and Roxie (Payne) Mitchell.
Hurley, a true friend, a wonderful caregiver for his parents for many years and later for his brother. He loved playing music and singing at special events, churches, weddings, and funerals. Hurley was a graduate of Coeburn High School, where he was all state basketball and baseball and a very gifted and talented athlete. After graduation, he played pro baseball for the Cleveland Indians as a pitcher. He had a big heart for animals and was the most loving and caring person. He was a true friend, and the best brother anyone could ask for.
Along with his parents, Hurley was preceded in death by his sister, Cleta Mitchell; brothers, Troy Holyfield, and Darrell Holyfield.
He is survived by his significant other, Sondra Dishman of Coeburn; brother, David Mitchell of Knoxville, TN; three special friends, Allen Skeens, Ralph Wells, and Terry Turner, along with many other extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 4 at Pine Camp Church of God of Prophecy of Coeburn from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, March 5 at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Bro. Curt Bond officiating. Graveside services will follow in the Elders/Edwards Cemetery on Sandy Ridge. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
