WILLIAM EDWARD JOHNSON
William Edward Johnson, 87,of Wise, passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at Norton Community Hospital after a brief illness.
He was the son of the late Charles Edward and Roxie Watson Johnson of Bluefield, WV.
He served his country in the Air Force from 1951 – 1955.
Ed and family made Wise their home in 1969 where he and his wife of 66 years, Charlotte Ruth, raised their children. Ed was father to Drew (Pam), Chris (Caroline), Jamie (Angela) and Pam (Paul). Grandfather (aka “Pa”) to Lindsey (Marcus), Christopher (Cherise), Alexandra (Tyler), Nathan, Sophie, Olivia, Elijah and Joshua. Great grandfather to Emma, Zoe, Adaline and our angel, Annie Blake.
He was extremely proud of his children’s athletic achievements and for many years could be found sitting in the stands, either in a gym or on the bleachers at a baseball field. Some of his greatest memories were coaching Little League baseball.
After retiring from Joy Technologies with 35 years of service, he became the best friend to every dog in the neighborhood, especially his Belle Girl. He always had a treat (or two or three) in his pocket or in his car.
He loved feeding and watching the birds and going fishing in the “John Boat” with the boys.
Ed was the grill master of the family and was the best beef jerky maker ever passing these skills on to his children and grandchildren.
He was a member of Esserville Community Church.
All services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Esserville Community Church, P. O. Box 941, Wise, VA 24293.
