Sports camp meeting planned Feb. 12
Area pastors are invited to an 8:00 a.m. breakfast hosted by HOPE (Helping Oppressed People Everywhere) on Saturday, February 12, at the Country Kitchen, 311 Wood Ave E., Big Stone Gap, for an informational meeting about the second annual Youth Sports Camp to take place this summer. The camp is sponsored by area churches, local businesses, and HOPE.
The camp is conducted by International Sports Federation (ISF), who will enlist athletes trained in a variety of team and individual sports from across the country to facilitate a fast-paced, engaging program demonstrating that sports can be both fun and character building.
ISF and HOPE are both faith-based nonprofit organizations. ISF provides avenues for volunteers to share both their passion for sports and their faith in other nations, and HOPE supports work with Roma children in Romania and HIV/AIDS-affected families in South Africa. Together, along with area churches, they collaborated to bring a successful sports camp for middle school youth to the Big Stone Gap area in 2021. The camp was provided at no cost to attending students. More youth are expected to attend this year, and additional support in the form of volunteers will be needed to make Youth Sports Camp 2022 a success.
Pastors and youth ministers are invited to the breakfast, to learn how they can get involved with this exciting opportunity.
