Booster shot urged for teens

December 16, 2021

The federal Centers for Disease Control have approved COVID-19 booster vaccinations for teens aged 16 and 17.

In a Dec. 9 statement, director Dr. Rochelle Walensky strongly encouraged teens to get a booster if they are at least six months past their initial vaccination series.

At this time, only the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is authorized and recommended for adolescents aged 16 and 17.
Nearly one month ago, the CDC endorsed expansion of booster vaccinations for adults to include anyone who received a Pfizer-BioNTech or a Moderna vaccine.

Anyone can find available vaccines at vaccines.gov and can consult their health care provider or local pharmacist if they have questions about vaccines or boosters.
