Health department provides vaccinations

The Virginia Department of Health is offering COVID-19 vaccinations at several events around the region during August.

At back-to-school events, TDAP, HPV and meningococcal vaccinations also will be offered.

Walk-ins are welcome with no appointment.

The health department RV will be available:

• Aug. 7, 11 a.m.-10:30 p.m., Coal/Railroad Days, Appalachia.

• Aug. 12, 2-6 p.m., Inman Village, Appalachia.

• Aug. 13, 4-8 p.m., Woodbooger Grill, Norton.

• Aug. 17, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., UVA Wise convocation.

• Aug. 19, 2-6 p.m., Pine Hill housing, Norton.

• Aug. 20, 2-6 p.m., Litchfield Manor, Coeburn.

• Aug. 21, 2-5 p.m., town of Wise block party, Big Glades.

• Aug. 24, 2-6 p.m., Thomas Village Apartments, Duffield.

• Aug. 26, 2-6 p.m., Clinchview Apartments, St. Paul.

“The Delta variant of the virus that causes COVID-19 is surging in the United States,” the health department notes. “New data show Delta is different than past versions of the virus; it is much more contagious. While rare, some vaccinated people can get Delta in a breakthrough infection and may be contagious. Unvaccinated people should get vaccinated and wear a mask until able to do so.”
