Napoleon Hill Foundation hosts visitors from many countries

August 01, 2021

The Napoleon Hill Foundation hosted more than 30 participants, including many international students, for the annual Leadership Certification, originating from The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, where the Foundation offices are located, July 15-17.

The course, organized and sponsored by the Napoleon Hill Foundation, is the capstone project for completion of the Napoleon Hill Leadership Certification, making graduates eligible to teach Napoleon Hill philosophies under the Foundation name. The final course provides a framework for students to collaborate, network and share multicultural views and applications of Hill’s philosophies.

Napoleon Hill, a Wise County native and author of “Think and Grow Rich,” and other motivational books established the Foundation as a nonprofit educational institution whose mission is to perpetuate the philosophy of leadership, self-motivation, and individual achievement.

Countries represented this year included India, Bolivia, Norway, Austria, Cyprus, Senegal, Germany, the Netherlands, Mexico, Canada, Liberia, China, and the United States. Don Green, CEO of the Foundation noted, “With many COVID regulations still in place and international travel not back to pre-pandemic levels, remaining in an online course format for a second year was the smart choice, and, students didn’t seem to mind.”

Behind closed virtual doors, students shared their individual experiences regarding professional and personal development. “It is always uplifting to hear the new ideas generated during the class along with the ongoing collaboration that happens. It is the goal of the Foundation to make the world a better place by playing a key role in helping people cultivate their gifts while encouraging them to give back to the communities and organizations that helped them along the way,” said Green.

To be eligible to attend the capstone course of The Napoleon Hill Leadership Certification, students must complete the first two courses, offered periodically throughout the year. The first is an independent home study course, and the second is an online course taken with other students focused on the 17 Principles of Success. Napoleon Hill, a Wise County native and author of “Think and Grow Rich,” and other motivational books established the Foundation as a nonprofit educational institution whose mission is to perpetuate the philosophy of leadership, self-motivation, and individual achievement.

Napoleon Hill was born in poverty in a one-room cabin on the Pound River on Oct. 26, 1883.  From these humble beginnings, the Wise County native became an advisor to presidents. During the early 20th century, Hill interviewed the nation’s most successful business leaders, including Andrew Carnegie and Henry Ford.  From those interviews and more conducted over 20 years, Hill compiled his eight-volume set “The Law of Success,” a collection of the philosophy of individual achievement.  He later condensed his research to compile “Think and Grow Rich,” often called one of the most important motivational books ever written.

First published in 1937, “Think and Grow Rich” has sold millions of copies worldwide and continues to appear on the list of top business books.  In this classic on personal achievement, Hill introduced the concept “whatever the mind can conceive and believe the mind can achieve.”  Seventeen principles from Hill’s philosophy of personal achievement include cultivating a burning desire, faith, and persistence in the attainment of goals. Hill’s writings are still must-reads for business professionals.

The Napoleon Hill Foundation is a nonprofit educational institution dedicated to promoting Hill’s philosophy. For more information, contact the Napoleon Hill Foundation at 276/328-6700 or by email at napoleonhill@uvawise.edu.
