OpenSpot Theatre coming to Coeburn

June 24, 2021

OpenSpot Theatre is offering theatre classes this summer for people of all ages and abilities.

OpenSpot Theatre is based out of Michigan, but has jumped at the opportunity to provide classes for people of other areas as well. Under the direction of Kailey Kyle and Hannah Adams, and in partnership with Crystal Lawson’s Special Needs Angels organization, these classes will meet every Tuesday in July from 6-7 p.m. at the Lays Hardware Center for the Arts in Coeburn, Virginia.

This program promotes teamwork, belonging, creativity, social skills and most importantly, fun! Students will rehearse and perform a play designed specifically for their interests, comfort level, and abilities. Singing, acting, and dancing are included in each class, along with sign language interpretations.

OpenSpot classes are specifically designed for those with Down Syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, or those of any varying developmental or physical ability. Every student will feel welcomed, loved, and comfortable; after all, we strongly believe that theatre is for ALL!

In addition, several people from the community have stepped up to support a student interested in participating by offering to cover the $60 registration fee. More information can be found by visiting OpenSpot Theatre’s website, or by contacting Kailey Kyle at kaileykyle01@gmail.com. To register, visit OpenSpot Theatre’s website and under locations, choose “Inaugural Virginia Class.”
