Smith awarded Nancy Tate Scholarship

Adran Smith, a 2021 graduate of John I. Burton High School, is this year’s recipient of The Nancy Tate Scholarship. The scholarship was endowed with $10,000 and provides one $1,000 annual scholarship through a merit-based competition that is open to all 12th grade students at John I. Burton. Smith also received his associate degree from Mountain Empire Community College in 2021. The scholarship is sponsored by the family in memory of Nancy Tate, who was a student of John I. Burton from 1951-54, where she was an outstanding student both academically and athlet-ically. She excelled as a basketball player for the Raiders and enjoyed all aspects of her high school career.
