Virus rules to relax some more
If COVID-19 case numbers continue their downward trend, Virginia will lift all virus mitigation measures and social distancing requirements by June 15, Gov. Ralph Northam said Thursday.
However, mask requirements will continue to be evaluated. The governor’s emergency mask mandate is set to expire June 30; it could be extended if needed, or so that people can continue to voluntarily wear face coverings, since state law prohibits wearing masks in public, Northam said during a press conference.
Starting May 15, social gatherings can include up to 100 people indoors or 250 people outdoors. Indoor entertainment venues can add attendance up to 50 percent of capacity or 1,000 people. Outdoor venues can accommodate half of their capacity. Restaurants will be allowed to stay open later and to sell alcohol after midnight.
