School workers are receiving COVID vaccine

Wise County schools Superintendent Greg Mullins spoke to the school board Tuesday on the status of the first available COVID-19 vaccinations available to school workers.

According to Mullins, originally, around 50 percent of those surveyed were looking to get the vaccine, but “many more than that” actually chose to receive it.

School employees are in the second group to receive priority as part of the designation “essential workers,” and those vaccinations began Monday.

Unfortunately, board member Donnese Kern was not in attendance due to catching COVID-19. During the end-of-meeting statements, several board members encouraged folks to get their vaccination whenever they could.

“I would like to wish Donnese Kern a speedy recovery,” board member Vicki Williams said. “She gave me permission to tell everyone she has COVID now. It can happen to anyone. Follow all the procedures and, as far as I am concerned, please get your vaccination.”

Board chair Larry Greear followed up: “Yes ma’am; we all need to get them.”
