Free virus tests offered today

The Virginia National Guard will conduct a mass COVID-19 testing event Friday, Dec. 18 at Central High School from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to the state health department.

The event is free to the public. No appointment or advance registration is required.

Only those age 16 and older can be tested.

“COVID-19 percent positivity is ranging from 18 percent in Lee County and Norton to a high of 25 percent in Scott County,” LENOWISCO Health District Director Dr. Sue Cantrell said. “This tells us that we need more testing in our region.”

Cantrell recommends that people avoid gathering with anyone outside of their household during the holidays. “However, if you plan to gather anyway, please protect your loved ones by getting tested and then staying home until you gather.”
