Library wifi hotspots soon are available

August 27, 2020

The Lonesome Pine Regional Library system’s mobile wireless internet hotspots have arrived.

Library patrons will be able to check out a hotspot for 14 days, beginning Sept. 1. Checkouts are limited to one device per household.

All Lonesome Pine library branches have hotspots available for checkout.

Hotspots allow you to connect your enabled devices (laptops, tablets, smartphones, etc.) to the internet. The hotspot is portable, so you can connect your device anywhere that has a Verizon cell phone signal.

Each device has a usage limit of 500 MB of data per day and is filtered to comply with the Children’s Internet Protection Act. The devices may be checked out by adults with a valid Lonesome Pine Regional Library card and a current government-issued photo ID.

Hotspots cannot be returned in the book drop and must be returned to the branch where it was checked out.

The library system announced in early August that it had ordered 45 hotspots, using a federal CARES Act grant through the Institute of Museum and Library Services and administered by the Library of Virginia.

Call 328-8325 or your local branch and watch the website at www.lprlibrary.org for details.
