County’s virus cases climbing
As of Thursday, the total of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Wise County had increased by 68 in one week.
The Virginia Department of Health reported that the county’s total confirmed cases in the months since the pandemic began had risen to 269 — up from 201 on Aug. 13.
Meanwhile, the health department’s cumulative positive case count for Norton appears to have dropped by one. Thursday’s number was 22, compared to 23 as of Aug. 16.
Statewide, the total number of confirmed cases across several months rose from 99,428 Aug. 13 to 105,289 Thursday, a one-week increase of 5,861.
The number of “probable” cases rose from 4,194 Aug. 13 to 4,593 Thursday, an increase of 399.
During the same period, the number of confirmed deaths increased by 62 to 2,310. The number of probable COVID-19 deaths remains at 117
