Four days, 60 new cases

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Wise County has increased by 60 in four days.

Also, the total number of county deaths attributed to the virus has grown to four.

As of Monday, the Virginia Department of Health reported a total of 141 COVID-19 cases in Wise County since the pandemic began months ago, with three deaths.

By Tuesday, the number of cases had jumped to 168. As of Wednesday, it was 181. As of Thursday, it was 201, and the number of deaths had increased by one.

On Monday, the department was reporting a total of 19 cases in Norton since the pandemic began, with no deaths. As of Thursday, the case count had risen to 22.

Statewide, the total number of confirmed cases across those several months had reached 98,374 by Wednesday — an increase of 1,567 since Monday. By Thursday, the number had grown to 99,428.

The number of “probable” statewide cases had reached 4,147 by Wednesday — an increase of 205 in two days. It had risen to 4,194 by Thursday.

Virginia’s total confirmed deaths as of Tuesday was 2,232; by Thursday it was 2,248. The number of probable deaths had reached 114, two more than on Monday.
