Jobs, career center resumes in-office hours

August 08, 2020

The Virginia Career Works-Norton Center has reopened to the public.

The center, located at 1725 Park Avenue NW, is offering expanded services to assist job seekers in finding a new career, according to a Thursday release.

Services now include Wagner-Peyser employment services that were previously managed by the Virginia Employment Commission. Wagner-Peyser representatives can assist job seekers with online job search and job matching, resume writing, job applications and interviewing skills. Representatives will also assist businesses with job listings to help fill positions within their companies as they reopen.

For those who have recently lost a job or need a skill to obtain a job, the Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act’s adult, dislocated worker and youth programs can help job seekers obtain short-term training that is needed to start a new career. Case managers will work with job seekers individually to help determine career goals and outline training plans. The program can provide supportive services to help job seekers address the challenges they face while unemployed, such as mileage payments to and from training, childcare, tuition, books, supplies and testing fees. WIOA case managers also provide assistance with job placement.

To learn more, visit the center or call 276/325-3270.

Visitors are required to wear a mask and have a temperature check.
