FRANK PRESTON AMBURN JR.

Frank Preston Amburn, Jr, a 1974 graduate of JJ Kelly High School, died Sunday, May 3 in Atlanta, Georgia after an extended illness and complications related to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He was 64, and lived a wonderfully unique life surrounded by loving family, countless friends, and exceptional music. If you had the pleasure of knowing Frank, or “Twink” as he was affectionately called by his high school bandmates, you know his talent as a saxophonist was unsurpassed, and he could bring a smile to anyone’s face with his quick wit and sense of adventure.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Preston Amburn, Sr and Mildred Mitchell Amburn.

Survivors include his wife Donna Amburn; son Evan Amburn; daughter Monica Amburn-Kimbrell, husband Brandon and children; stepdaughter Lindsay Mangieri, husband Lee and children; sister Jane Wharton and husband Phillip; niece Kristel Wharton Owenby and family; nephew Bryan Wharton and family; many wonderful cousins, and countless other friends and loved ones.

A virtual celebration of life will be held this Friday, May 15 at 6pm through Westminster Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg, SC where his daughter and son-in-law are members. Since no attendees will be allowed due to current COVID restrictions, the entire service will be available for viewing live online through either of the following links:
