PCCC partners with UVA Wise to hire interns

Students work remotely for companies across the Commonwealth

Peregrine Computer Consultants Corporation (PCCC) is the most recent technology company to partner with the University of Virginia’s College at Wise to provide internships to college students.

Participating through the College’s UVA WiseWorks internship program, PCCC has hired students majoring in computer science, software engineering and math. WiseWorks students remain in Southwest Virginia and work remotely, from home or from a coworking space such as the Oxbow Center in St. Paul, Va.

PCCC is a highly skilled computer hardware and software integrator that provides cyber security services specializing in email and open source software security. The company, based in Fairfax, advises some of the largest firms on the planet and protects over 30% of the domains on the internet. "With the WiseWorks internship program, we are enjoying mentoring the student interns, giving them real-world experience and at the same time developing a practical cyber security curriculum to expand on the excellent theoretical base from UVA at Wise,” said CEO Christopher Surprise.

UVA WiseWorks has offered virtual internships since 2015. Several technology firms have leveraged the WiseWorks program. Chantilly-based Atomicorp is a cybersecurity company. Richmond-based Mapcom Systems is the developer of the M4 Solutions Suite and Pinpoint811, applications for communication service providers. Stillwell Technology and Robotics, based in Brandy Station, Va., provides defense and data sciences consulting and builds robotics interoperability software.

The majority of WiseWorks students who have graduated have received job offers from their internship employers.
